‘Technology for Africa’ ProjectLivetech is a professional IT recycling and repair service, which is operated and developed by level 2 and level 3 (16-19 yrs) students studying for their IT Practitioner Apprenticeship. This service supports the Local Authority and private organisations around Sheffield, South Yorkshire and the Region, to meet their recycling targets through an ethical and efficient service. The project is based at Red Tape Central and is managed by Lifelong Learning and Skills, Children and Young People’s Directorate.
In February 2009, DP Services were contracted to provide transportation & logistics services to project. This involved palletising, wrapping & loading 200 recycled computers and peripherals, for onward shipment to the Ivory Coast in West Africa. On arrival at Abidjan docks, the IT equipment was then taken to a NGO warehousing facility for subsequent distribution to local primary schools and hospitals. Following this successful partnership project, Livetech and DP Services have now been asked to supply thousands more PC’s to regions across the African continent.
“For our first international shipment, we needed to work with a company who had a strong track record and a very safe pair of hands. DP Services worked tirelessly on our behalf to achieve our end goal, working to extremely tight deadlines and exceptionally high quality standards. We simply couldn’t have done it without them!”
